A picturesque setting in Hermann Park is home to more than 4,500 animals at the popular Houston Zoo. Recent additions to the Zoo include a revised Children's Zoo, a Natural Encounters area, a Wildlife Carousel and an animal-themed splash play area, perfect for those hot Texas summers.

The elephant area is currently being completely redesigned and promises to be one of the major attractions at the zoo upon its completion in 2008. Visitors to the zoo can also enjoy a train ride around Hermann Park, a round of golf at the Hermann Park golf course or visits to nearby museums, including the Children's Museum, Museum of Natural Science or Museum of Health. Families might also enjoy taking the new Houston MetroRail to and from the Zoo to avoid parking problems in the crowded Museum District/Rice University/Texas Medical Center area. More information on the Houston Zoo is available online at the Zoo's web site.
